5-star system: 1 star = "will do in a pinch" (does NOT mean "tastes like gasoline"... those aren't even mentioned here). 5 stars = whatever can top the William Larue Weller 19 year (a flaming Snickers bar!). ALL bourbons here are worth tasting. Since I sip bourbon neat & prefer hi-proof bourbons with strong flavors, I rank a good smooth bourbon slightly less than a good strong bourbon. I prefer a fiery cannonball of flavor!

I agree that WT 101 isn't a top shelf bourbon, but I do think it's an essential in any whiskey drinker's cabinet.
I find it to be a reliable choice for making a number of whiskey-based cocktails - Manhattans, Sazeracs, etc. The rye spiciness and less sweet flavor is the key.
If I'm mixing one up for myself, I'll use something nicer, but WT 101 is my go-to for other folk.
I have a full review of Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon on my own blog too.
